A thought that perplexes me is the uproar of comparisons among many students—whether with themselves or with others. I am not saying that I am immune to this trap; such comparisons can occur both subconsciously and consciously, creating a dilemma that often goes unnoticed. Additionally, there is the tendency to compare different institutions, which adds another layer to this issue. Often, these topics are brushed aside, and many overlook their significant effects on a person's intentions and overall feelings toward others.
Every institute has its strengths and weaknesses; no one is perfect. Only when one is physically part of an institute can they gain a true perspective on it. This is not to imply that students dislike their institute; rather, comparisons can often arise when students from different institutes engage in conversation. Their goal primarily may change to boast about their own institute. While there is nothing inherently wrong with praising one's institute when done out of love and within reasonable bounds, it can become detrimental when it leads to unhealthy feelings of rivalry or resentment.
One thing to remember is that the grass often appears greener on the other side. During one’s final few years of study, it is essential to avoid engaging in unnecessary quarrels , as these comparisons can be distractions that stem from Shayțān, which can divert you from your ultimate goal. Focus your time and energy on studying and fulfilling your responsibilities. Once you succumb to the destructive thoughts that accompany comparison, it can foster negative feelings towards others, which is something we should avoid.
Choosing to stick with one institute—the one where you began your journey—is usually the wisest decision, unless there is a dire need to change. When comparing yourself to a fellow pupil, always keep in mind that we are all unique. Each of us has different lifestyles, study methods, and personal journeys. It is crucial to find your path rather than simply following the crowd or trying to fit in with what everyone else is doing.
Understand that you will eventually reach where you need to be; this process requires patience and time. It is perfectly fine to draw motivation from others, pushing yourself to improve and learning from your mistakes. In conclusion, prioritize your own journey and carve your own path, rather than losing yourself in the chaos of comparison. This message serves as a reminder for myself first and foremost, and then for others.
